I've pretty much decided I am old soul at heart. I love any and all old houses, old furniture, old buildings old decor, and most recently, old trucks. Maybe it's because of the memories tied into the old stuff that make me a bit nostalgic. This old guy has been in my neighbor's yard for years. He's old, a bit rusty, and hasn't seen a road or a mechanic in quite some time. But there's just something about him that tugs on my heart strings. I imagine him to have the old upholstery smell, a dusty dashboard, and a creaky glove compartment filled with old receipts and paperwork. It's questionable that his engine even works but if it did, I can just imagine the masculine rumble he would make. No doubt he was quite the looker back in the day. I'm not sure how much longer l will have to crush on him as a new home and a new owner is in his future.  Schools are starting back up this week and that means first day pics will be flooding social media sites.
Lots of cute kiddos in their cute new clothes and sporting enthusiastic cute smiles as if they are excited for the first day! Rewind 50+ years when my first day of school arrived...no smiles for me. Or my mom. Or my teacher (according to what I was told). It was a traumatic day for all of us. In fact, I have a very faint memory of being placed in a closet until I could get my little 5 yr old self under control - but that's another story for a different day. First days can be exciting but they can also be very emotional. For everyone. And remember, first days only happen once. You can do this. Lots of hugs to all you first-timers out there - kids, parents, teachers. It's ok to cry. It's ok to have a time out. (But not in a closet - unless you're the teacher. Or the parent.)
