Build-A-Fort, Build-A-Memory

It's build-a-fort day at Mimi's house today.

Every blanket. Every pillow. Every basket. Every item has a purpose and is precariously placed in order to build the perfect fort.

What is it with kids and forts anyway?

I can remember building forts with my cousins on days when outdoor play was not possible. We used every item we could find, even raiding a linen closet or two (much to the dismay of our mothers, aunts, and grandma). We had the biggest forts and the best time working together in constructing a tunnel of pillows, blankets, and sheets.

I've not always been a fort fan however. When my kids ẁere young, my days consisted of cleaning, cooking, and doing laundry. The "f" word just meant more work for me. More times than not, my answer to the fort-building question was "no" followed with a "go play in your room".

Oh, if I could turn back the clock ... just for a little while.

Blankets can always be refolded and pillows returned to their rightful place.

In the meantime, fort memories are being built. For all of us.
